A FEW THAT GIVE BACK
AFTER 1 YEAR MY PASSION GREW STRONGER
Before we forget that we belong to a precious planet which is going through hell because humanity still can`t understand the changes it’s experiencing.
The fascinating part about life is what we chose to become.
Prior entitlement and dependence suppress our potential we must allow ourselves to grow in different facets of our lives.
On 5th May our newsletter clocked a new year filled with inspirational stories depicting change makers that are making a positive impact in society.
When I began The Planet I Love I thought so deep how society only limited conversations around mental health to people that were admitted to psychiatric clinics.
I was also concerned how issues around climate change were only perceived to waste disposal and deforestation unlike seeing the bigger picture with the decisions influenced by our subjective conscious.
Further, my thoughts spread wider when Sexual Reproductive Health was misunderstood to be a strong agent for adolescents’ desire to encounter unsafe sexual practices.
It is a common belief that man is limited by their options. However, with the world, I have been privileged to share my gift and tell stories that bridge the information gap.
We look back to some of the amazing efforts that were undertaken in the first quarter that were aimed at saving Mother Earth.
At the click of a clock, we must draw inspiration when we young people take the lead in initiatives that point toward progress towards social change.
A group of youths thinks that wasting food would be a bad idea for the environment and deserve to be spotlighted.
In April we saw how a team of innovative youths launched a company that is aimed at managing food waste in a bid to eradicate hunger and poverty by helping the vulnerable communities.
It is a well-founded organisation called Zambia Food Bank with one of its programmes aimed at rescuing and recovering food from being wasted, to distributing it to vulnerable communities.
Enock Mwewa organisation Team Lead says the project is also supporting SDG 12 to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
"17% of food is wasted at the consumer level. We are addressing this by offering a platform for potential food donors to offer relief to those in need of food," he said.
The Zambia Food Bank project believes food recycling, eradicates disasters that come with inefficiency to recycle food. Therefore, this will help struggling communities access food.
We are reminded to rethink our strategies by adapting to the already existing forms of smart energy such as alternatives to charcoal and also managing food waste.
Hospitality industries won`t worry about where to take leftover food but now it will help those vulnerable in orphanages and some children living on the street.
This entails that the country will improve in meeting its sustainable development goals of ending hunger and enhancing the quality of nutrition.
A flashback at the Earth Hour 2023 we recognize the role of youth in enlightening society on the importance of conserving energy, planting trees and recycling waste.
This conversation is taken to the locals through street activations by approaching drivers who emit carbon at every pace of their mobility when the Green Traffic lights are on.
It doesn`t end there at all, Action Aid Zambia is seen to train scribes in the media fraternity and activists championing environmental justice are then empowered through capacity building by empowering them with knowledge on climate financing and carbon markets which remains critical by evaluating how it’s been utilized to benefit the green economy.
The author was also privileged to share his success stories during an outdoor fitness event commemorating Earth Hour sharing with WWF Zambia Board Chairperson Elias Chipimo.
Dalitso Lungu sharing his media journey during the 2023 Earth Hour
This event is all about dedicating an hour to mother earth by blacking the earth and brightening it with candlelight with essence to appreciate the beauty of the universe and also the natural resources surrounding it.
Passionate youths like Blutus Mbambi, Enock Mwewa, Loretta C., Florence Jedidiah Mulenga and Dalitso Mvula have remained dedicated to bringing their fellow youths into one space to activate social change in the community by conducting sessions in schools and institutions of higher learning.
The stories do not end here we will continue sharing inspiring updates and profiles of young people who are making positive changes in society.
